May 14-15 SCCA Hoosier Super Tour -PIR
What an amazing weekend for the team. Saturday was all about trying to feel out all the changes we made to the Cheap Fast Racing E Production RX7. With only one session, Qualifying, We had what we had. With a ton of changes, basically a whole new rear suspension setup and big brakes on the front, the car was definitely not as happy as before. No time to put in on an alignment rack and trying to make changes at the track was not ideal. Qualifying came and we ended up 2nd. Austin Bradshaw, and the Bradshaw team brought the heat and qualified 1st. We were the last race group on Saturday, and when they say saving the best for last, this could not be more true. We got the jump at the start, thanks to that Drummond Engine power. 25 Minute race and Austin could not be shook. He was there the entire time but we were able to hold on to the win by .235 sec. Darren drove an extremely crafty race, and even with Austin getting side by side down the back straight, the Drummond power was enough to get clear.
Earlier in the day Saturday, We got to make out GT1 Debut. Running a GASS Stock Car from Pat Bliss, Darren started in the back as we did not qualify (Little to damp in the morning). The green flag flew and we immediately moved up to 4th in class . As the race ran on, Darren got more and more comfortable, lap times got faster and faster, and he moved into 3rd in GT1. When it was all said and down, avoiding some not so smart driving by others, Darren brought the car home 3rd. That’s a podium in our debut in GT1. Pretty awesome for our first race in the car. Pat Bliss has been awesome with helping us get this time in a car like this. This is all so we are ready for the Xfinity Race on June 4th.
Sunday would be a whole different race. It was wet and drying so we had to make a decision. We decided to go out on our Goodyear Rain tires as the track had lots of water still. As we head to grid, we pickup a fouled plug or something, still scratching our heads, and the car would only run on one rotor. With no choice or time, the team sent Darren out in hopes it would clean itself up and we would just get a finish. Luck as it would be was on our side, it cleared up on the pace lap and away we went with the green flag. Darren ran a masterful race in the rain and with a drying track. The Cheap Fast Racing EP RX7 and Darren went on to win the race by almost a full lap.
All in all it was a great weekend. Lots of learning and adjusting still to do, but to sweep the weekend was a great feeling. Onto our next race weekend!!!
