2019 Season Begins - SCCA Majors Race at Sonoma

We returned once again to Sonoma, California for an early January SCCA Majors race, the first on the Western Conference Schedule. They say third times a charm, but unfortunately we came up just short of scoring our first national SCCA win at Sonoma Raceway. During race 1 we attempted to keep up with local veteran Aaron Downey, but his well developed nimble RX3 and local track knowledge helped take him to victory. We took second beating Anthony Jimerson in his second generation RX7 that we battled against at the Runoffs. Although the sun wasn’t shining for race two, that played towards our favor as the rain changes everything turning it into a drivers race. We put on our Continental full tread rain tires while Downey went with an intermediate Goodyear tire ideal for a damp track. After starting second we took an early lead passing the RX3 on lap two and Darren was able to build an eight second advantage. Unfortunately the rain stopped about halfway through the race and a dry line started to form giving the edge back to Downey on the intermediate tire. He diligently closed the gap and with two laps to go passed for the win. Unfortunate result after a greatly driven race, but that’s the way it goes sometimes. All in all we gathered the points we needed and will have out sites set on trying to take the win at our home track in Portland. Thanks to our team for all of the help and support at our first race in 2019. It’s shaping up to be a great year!
